Creative Curriculum Time
Creative Curriculum days are scheduled for one day each half term for children in Prep and Pre-Prep and are designed to enrich and enhance the subjects they study in the National Curriculum. They cover topics that the children would not normally be able to explore fully within their normal timetable. All the activities for the day are cross-curricular but revolve around a common theme.
Recent themes have included; Flight, Shelter, and during our centenary, an historical look at the past 100 years. The children are split into groups of mixed ages and progress through four aged-appropriate activities within the day. The activities are designed to be fun but challenging—encouraging the children to go on a journey of guided discovery using their critical thinking and creative skills.
The Creative Curriculum programme enables children to develop the capability to apply their skills and knowledge in a context that is wider than the formal curriculum—the foundation of the independent learning skills that they will need if they are to succeed in secondary and higher education. It also introduces children to areas of study they might not otherwise encounter and it may well ignite an interest or passion that will enrich their whole lives; the beginning of a life-long love of learning.
